Economic developers need to ACT!

Article Abstract:

ACT! is a contact management software that may be useful for economic development offices, especially those that are small or are just getting started. It organizes data in dBase-compatible format and also possesses capabilities for time management, automatic dialing, integrated word processing and document transmission via facsimile machine. ACT! was bought from its developer by Symantec Corp., a reputable software company which also owns Norton Utilities and other popular software.

Economic development services and the Internet

Article Abstract:

The Internet may be used by economic development practitioners in sharing information. However, this will entail active education and marketing. The experience of the Office of Economic Conversion Information of the Economic Development Administration serves as proof of the need to consider very carefully the factors before launching into the Internet.

The forgotten role of retail in economic development

Article Abstract:

The retail sector does not normally have the same economic impact on a community as does manufacturing and other export-based activities. In certain cases, however, retail activity can actually generate both employment and income. As such, it can also be considered as economic development.
