Employment agencies

Article Abstract:

The UK market for employment agencies seems to have recovered from the recession of the early 1990s, with agency turnover growing from 10.3 billion pounds sterling in 1994 to around 13.3 billion pounds in 1995. The recession has led to greater concentration within the sector, although it is still very fragmented: in 1994, the average business had only 3.9 branches. The temporary sector of the employment agency market has benefitted from changes in work practices: the number of temporary workers placed by agencies grew by 84% in 1990-95, vs a 37% fall in permanent staff placed.
