Employment protection and aggregate unemployment

Article Abstract:

The Shapiro and Stiglitz model was used to assess the effects on the equilibrium unemployment rate of wherein a change in the ease with which workers could be fired for shirking was a consideration. In addition, the model analyzed the effects of employment and tightening of job-security provisions on aggregate wages. The results showed that employment protection provisions increased the wage set by firms as they attempted to offset the negative effects on workers' effort.

Unemployment, wage indexation and commercial policies

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the relationships among unemployment, wage indexation and commercial policies. Results show that wage indexation schemes exert considerable influence on price variations under certain conditions. Reasonable indexation terms may still subject employment to terms of trade shocks. These results present the possibility of establishing an indexation method which is unaffected by price changes.

Estimated inflation costs had European unemployment been reduced in the 1980s by macro policies

Article Abstract:

Unemployment in Europe was studied using a multicountry econometric model. This was to estimate what the inflation costs would have been for the period 1982-1990. The standard view is that macroeconomic policies do little to reduce unemployment. The results of a study done by Fair do not support this. These results were based on price and wage equations for 28 countries, 15 of which are European.
