Export promotion: the role of transportation subsidies

Article Abstract:

A partial equilibrium trade model is used to develop a method for measuring the effects of transportation subsidies on trade flows. The model was applied in the Canadian setting to determine how transportation subsidies influence the production and export of alfalfa products. Results reveal that the removal of subsidies lowers the value of both production and exports. Results also show how simple trade models can be used to study trade distorting policies.
