Farming - 1980 style; high technology and tight management will increase efficiency for future farms

Article Abstract:

The value of farms in Alberta, Canada declined seven percent between 1983 and 1984. Lethbridge Research Station, a federal agricultural research center, tests high pressure injection of liquid fertilizer into the soil, snow trapping and other productivity improvement techniques. Farmers grow crops for global markets and manage money closely.

Unions in flux; where does the future lie for unionized construction?

Article Abstract:

The recent slump in the construction industry has affected collective bargaining between trade-unions and industry. Non-union contractors are more flexible in negotiating wages. The overall economy and new technology are decreasing unionworkers' needed skills. Union members are leaving the area or switching occupations to stay employed.

Electronic mail; the future is now

Article Abstract:

Competing electronic mail services are being offered by Telecom Canada, CNCP Telecommunications, Canada Post and conventional courier services. Even with electronic mail, more conventional types of mail service will continue to flourish.
