First Saudi Arabian investment fund

Article Abstract:

The Saudi American Bank (SAMBA) introduced the country's first equity fund called the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund Ltd. (SAIF). The move is aimed towards enhancing the entry of foreign portfolio investors in Saudi Arabian equity securities. The entry of several portfolio investments in Saudi Arabia is also expected to boost the long-term capital appreciation of the country. The new equity fund will have SAMBA as its investment manager and local agent while Baring Brothers Limited of London and ING Baring Securities Ltd. will act as sponsor and international placing agent, respectively.

Saudi oil policy: internal, regional and global pressures

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia's King Fahd has traditionally favored high volume oil production over high prices per barrel as a policy to foster good will with the industrial countries. Faced with rising fundamentalism, economic stagnation and limited financial reserves, Fahd must balance Saudi Arabia's role as OPEC's lead producer with the need to increase revenue-per-barrel. Saudi Arabia has reduced production from 8.5 to 8 million barrels per day, with further reductions likely to follow should world economic conditions improve.
