Healthy bodies and thick wallets: the dual relationship between health and economic status

Article Abstract:

Medical scientists argue that health is affected by economi factors, but the reverse may be true. Household earning ability and asset accumulation can be affected by health factors, and this is especially true for middle age and among older people. The health of adults can be affected by their early childhood. Economic resources can have an impact on health, especially in childhood and among young adults. There is a need for further work to assess the extent to which health affects income and income affects health.

Economic effects of reducing disability

Article Abstract:

The complexity associated with measuring life expectancy has barred researchers from evaluating the potential impact of chronic disability on the country's economy. A specialized multivariate procedure was developed in an attempt to address such problem. The approach disregards variables which limit researchers from acquiring discrete measurements. The proposed procedure may be used simultaneously with the Grade of Membership model, which is capable of determining human capital and analyzing disability parameters.

Vignettes and self-reports of work disability in the United States and the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the self-reports of work disabilities in the United States and the Netherlands revealed inconsistent means of measurement, primarily due to variations in response scales used. The significance of vignettes as effective evaluative tools is also discussed.
