Help wanted: hiring a CEO for an economic development organization

Article Abstract:

The process of successfully hiring a new chief executive officer (CEO) for an economic development organization involves various tasks that needs to be observed by the search team. A search team needs to identify the qualification requirements for a CEO applicant in terms of experience, professional certifications and personal characteristics. Development of a position specification sheet, which specifies the position, required qualifications and instructions for applications, also has to be undertaken by the search team.

Creating successful communities and successful economic developers

Article Abstract:

Achievement of a successful economic development often entails successful development of communities. Development of a community can be attained through promotion of community leadership and information. Community leaders and economic developers must create a partnership towards effective identification, prioritization and resolution of community needs and problems.

A comparison of rural and urban economic development programs in Pennsylvania

Article Abstract:

The economic development programs in rural and urban Pennsylvania are studied. Rural and urban economic programs are similar in their need to create mission statements and recruit full-time staff for economic development. On the other hand, rural programs are overseen by public agencies, while urban programs are managed by a mix of economic entities and experts.
