Household borrowing behavior in Russia

Article Abstract:

The trends in household debts in Russia are examined based on the statistics on lending to individuals during 2001 to 2003. It is observed that the household debts in the country are rising. An analysis reveals that the borrowed funds are utilized for purchasing real estate, durable goods, etc. However, Russians still refrain from availing consumer loans from the banks. The stringent terms accompanying the loan documents like guarantees, legal income proof etc. are also discussed.

Borrowing by Russian businesses

Article Abstract:

Small and medium sized companies in Russia face financial hiccups now and then as commercial banks are unwilling to lend them the requisite finance because of overestimation of risks. Even if the banks come forward with finance, the interest rates are generally prohibitively high. On the other hand, commercial banks in Russia are more open to lending monies to large companies in the country on terms that are mutually acceptable.
