How will EMU affect inflation and unemployment in Europe?

Article Abstract:

Inflation and unemployment tend to rise in countries that will be under the European Monetary Union (EMU). Such condition is most likely to occur if EMU will undertake an operation that is as conservative as national central banks. The increase in unemployment can also be attributed to accommodation of excessive wage claims by a European Central Bank. On the other hand, a fall in unemployment is most likely to be experienced by nations in which their monetary policy is previously connected to the Bundesbank.

Do environmental standards harm manufacturing employment?

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model is developed to test the effects of environmental regulation on the employment levels in three Norwegian manufacturing sectors: pulp and paper; steel, iron and ferroalloys and chemicals. The model shows that while the level of employment in the chemical sector in not affected, those in the pulp and paper and the steel and ferroalloy sectors were found to have a tendency to increase their employment.

Does government employment "crowd-out" private employment? Evidence from Sweden

Article Abstract:

Increases in public expenditures due to a rise in government employment are examined to determine their effect on private employment. A model is developed using Sweden's quarterly data on employment for the period 1964 to 1990. Results show that public employment crowded out private employment for the said period. This result contradicts the Keynesian employment model which illustrates an indirect crowding-in effect.
