Human development and income growth in developing countries

Article Abstract:

Sudhir Anand's and Martin Ravallion's arguments favoring the human-based approach to development in poor countries through policy intervention draws response that failure to correlate fixed effects with variables such as life expectancy has generated biased results. Regressions that control for fixed effects show per capita human development to be meaningless without a parallel growth in per capita income. The focus on public services deviates from development priorities of lowering income poverty. This thesis ignores the long-term positive link between average income and human development.

Inequality, income growth, and mobility: the basic facts

Article Abstract:

Changes in the labor market directly influence the changes in the distribution of family income. The inequality illustrated in the poverty and household income trends has prompted debate on the issue. However, academic studies have focused more on the changes in the distribution of earnings. In view of this, the concepts of economic growth, mobility and inequality were studied to describe the varying aspects of the changes in the distribution of income.
