Hybrid algorithms with automatic switching for solving nonlinear equation systems

Article Abstract:

Hybrid algorithms are examined for their ability to improve on the convergence features of the underlying algorithms from which they are developed. In particular, they are evaluated for their ability to expedite convergence, minimize the computational task and expand the radius of convergence. The hybrid algorithms are weighted combinations of Newton and Fast Gauss-Seidel iterations that use an optimal switching device. Tests demonstrate that these hybrids result in great improvements in the solution of nonlinear models.

Taxation and the intergenerational transmission of human capital

Article Abstract:

A study of the effect of taxation on human capital uses two types of models: those based on overlapping generations and on infinite horizon. Results show that persistence helps develop responsiveness to income taxes.
