Innovation, learning and industrial organisation

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to develop a process theory which connects the view of the entrepreneur as adaptive and decreasing uncertainty with the view of the entrepreneur which focuses on the horizon of equilibrium. In this way, the relation between equilibration and dis-equilibration can be investigated, and it is also possible to assess what conditions and what companies break out from established paradigms. This process can be regarded as being determined by the combination of degree of integration and location. Processes of equilibration, or exploitation, or first-order learning, can be seen as creating an integrated process of development along with processes of dis-equilibration.

Large firms and industrial reform in former planned economies: the case of China

Article Abstract:

The Chinese government's efforts to gradually develop the state-owned large scale industrial sector into competitive firms reflect its understanding of the logic of advanced capitalism. The history of capitalism clearly hints that the prosperity of a nation lies in the successes of big businesses. China's economic growth in the 1980s is largely due to the growth in the heavy industry sector. The role of the small-scale sector was insignificant in this economic revival. China's success is a good example for Eastern Europe and Russia.
