Article Abstract:

The International Organisation of Standardisation, headquartered in Switzerland, and its ISO 9000 certification program for quality management and assurance have made considerable headway in Asia. Total quality management is appearing in many organizations and there are national listings of ISO 9000-certified products, services and companies in various countries. In China ISO 9000 is adopted as GB/T 19000 (to 19004)-94. Small companies can improve prospects by being certified, since certification is often demanded of suppliers, but time, effort and money are required.

'The Detroit Sunday Journal,' a newspaper financed by labor unions and put out by striking newspaper workers, was born at the basement of the 'Plymouth Community Crier,' a Detroit periodical. It started with 20-inch computer monitors and three Power Macs. The first issue of the journal was produced with the enthusiasm of reporters, photographers and editors from 'The Detroit News' and 'Free Press.'
