Mixed prospects for investment

Russia's economic uncertainties at the end of 1996 have not prevented South Korean investment in that nation. The two countries agreed in Jul 1997 to form a committee to promote greater cooperation between private companies and encourage further development of business contacts between the nations. Doubts about Russia's political and economic stability continue to slow investment from overseas.

Developing links with South Korea
Article Abstract:
Russia is strongly interested in maintaining and increasing commercial ties with South Korea. Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov visited South Korea in late Jul 1997 to prepare for the visit by President Boris Yeltsin scheduled for the end of 1997 or early 1998. Bilateral summits and other conferences are planned to increase business relationships between the two nations.

Asia's new business frontier

Economic opportunities in Africa are growing as a result of an expanding, youthful consumer base and a wide variety of markets. The continent has many natural resources such as gold, diamond, cobalt, uranium and chromium, and has a rich agricultural history and textile market. Notable countries include Botswana, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda.
