On kin groups and wages in the Ghanaian labour market

Article Abstract:

Individuals in African societies typically belong to tightly knit kin groups which impose reciprocal obligations on their members. A study was conducted to analyze the influence of kin group patronage in the contemporary Ghanaian economy. Results indicate that kin groups persist because the small scale, high risk environment remains the dominant sector of African economies. Kin groups as functioning organizations control the contemporary sector of the African economy.
