Logistics technology: shipping through cyberspace

Article Abstract:

About a third of urgent document deliveries will be transmitted over the Internet by 2002 according to United Parcel Services (UPS). About $11.2 bil of the global document delivery market will move electronically. Increasing use of the Internet will change the document delivery business and global delivery companies are working to master challenges of that system. Security is still poor in 1998 and related issues dominate the discussions on the business potential of the Internet, but problems likely will disappear in time. UPS and Federal Express have plans for data communications services for documents in Asia. DHL has set up an information technology center in Malaysia.
