On the complexities of China's WTO accession

Article Abstract:

The inclusion of China in the World Trade Organization (WTO) entails several economic effects mainly brought about by the country's huge economy. China's accession in WTO is expected to boost world trade not only because of its strong economy but also because it would probably result in the inclusion of another major economy, which is Taiwan. It is also expected to lessen the tension between China and its other trading partners. The issue of poor intellectual property right enforcement and trade policy transparency are some of the factors that need to be addressed before China is allowed to join the WTO.

The GATT's review of Australian trade policy

Article Abstract:

The review of Australian trade policy by GATT is a comprehensive and accurate document. It shows Australia's transformation from being a highly protected industrial economy to becoming a relatively liberal trading economy. The only area where reforms have still to be implemented is in the labor market where wage setting should give way to bargaining. Australia has been noted for being one of the staunchest supporters of the GATT's Uruguay Round.
