Opportunities, incentives and the collective patterns of technological change

Article Abstract:

Technological change springs from induced innovation, path-dependence and evolution which are related but to what extent still explorable. The mechanism for exploring technological change are still shaky but much progress has been made with a breakthrough nearer than can be expected. There are still guidelines that would ensure the validity of future studies and economists must take these guidelines into account whenever pursuing further studies on technological change.

Induced innovation, evolutionary theory and path dependence: sources of technical change

Article Abstract:

An analysis of technical change and the factors that influence it reveals that an eclectic approach to determining technical change is warranted as current technical change theories continue to approach a dead end. Induced innovation, evolutionary theory and path dependence all play a part in technical change and an eclectic approach best defines change and gives room for forecasting.

Towards a more historical approach to technological change

Article Abstract:

Accounting for learning and network activities with respect to technological change can produce a clearer historical picture of technological innovations. Technological networks evolved in a manner that must be discovered by economists if they are to paint a picture that clearly shows how inducement, path dependence and evolution have influenced technological change.
