Pizza

Article Abstract:

Pizza has had great success in the UK retail food market. Market penetration was 64% and increasing in 1996. Value sales of chilled pizzas increased by 54% between 1993 and 1997, and frozen pizza sales rose 80%. Manufacturers offer a huge array of pizzas with different types, shapes and sizes of base and different toppings. The success of the product may be related to lifestyle changes and to constant innovation on the part of manufacturers, who launched 104 new pizzas during 1996. Own label products dominate the chilled pizza sector, but there are several major brands of frozen pizza.
