Prices, credit markets and child growth in low-income rural areas

Article Abstract:

The structure of credit markets is analyzed via its linkage with the trend in child growth in Bangladesh's rural areas taken before and after the 1988 floods. A model that incorporates temporal determinants in the credit allocation decision and the cost of borrowing shows that children of landless families were most severely affected. In other words, access to credit affected the weights and consequent health of children in households that were more deprived of material possessions.

Policy measures to avoid a currency crisis

Article Abstract:

Variant policy measures for establishing fixed exchange rates are evaluated. The analysis assumed that rate changes are generated by policy development geared toward extreme economic situations. Cost and benefit balance of shifting rate regimes can be achieved through various policy measures. Such measures condition a policy-maker's switching point and affect private market expectations.

Some evidence on the efficiency of the forward market for foreign exchange from Monte Carlo experiments

Article Abstract:

The forward foreign exchange market efficiency hypothesis (FMEH) is tested through the Monte Carlo approach. The objective is to prove the broad applicability of the Monte Carlo approach. Six hypotheses are examined for the US dollar-German mark exchange rate. Empirical analysis has been used on monthly data from 1975-1987.
