Prosperity for all? Reflecting on the MFA complex after Marrakech

Article Abstract:

The Multi-Fiber Arrangement will be abolished gradually over a ten-year period, as it is replaced by a new World Trade Organization provision. Under the Uruguay Round Trade Agreement, signed in Marrakech, Morocco, in Apr 1994, the principle of non-discrimination will be applied to the trade of textile and clothing products between industrial countries and non-industrial countries. However, the European Union's protectionist tendencies are a major hindrance towards the effective implementation of the Uruguay Round Trade Agreement.

The economic impact of the European Union regime on public procurement: lessons for the WTO

Article Abstract:

Stringent measures have been initiated by organizations, such as the European Union and the European Economic Area, to avoid partiality in public procurement contracts which are seen as hindrances to free trade. The European Union's regime while acknowledged as the most advanced among all existing models, still fall short of its objectives. The system is limited by factors which include vagueness in rules, a deficiency in enforcement, and incompatible market specifications between countries.
