Quality improvement in health care: a framework for price and output measurement

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze issues related to health-care measurement. These issues correlate with treatment decisions, impact of technical changes on the efficacy of treatment, and payment schemes. A framework for studying how the demand for durable medical treatments is influenced by changes in the technology of treatment was developed. Results indicated the need for statistical agencies to develop standard metrics for adjusting the price of treatments for changes in equality.

Monetary policy and credit conditions: evidence from the composition of external finance

Article Abstract:

The existence of a lending channel of the transmission of monetary policy is illustrated through the use of a model that incorporates relative moments in commercial paper and bank loans. The model illustrates how policies affect the assets and liabilities of banks. The model shows that firms change their mix of external financing in response to tighter monetary policy and indicates that the supply of loans can be reduced as a result of contractionary policy.

The construction of U.S. consumption data: some facts and their implications for empirical work

Article Abstract:

The techniques used to gather US consumption data were studied. The research revealed that compositional errors and errors in sampling could lead to imperfections in the data. Economists conducting empirical research can follow certain guidelines to reduce these imperfections. One way to do this is to treat personal-consumption expenditures for goods and services separately whenever disaggregated consumption components are used.
