Quick guide to negotiating and establishing franchises in the region - with examples from a Kuwaiti experience

Article Abstract:

The franchising business has been successfully transplanted to the Middle East because of strong consumer demand and the attractiveness of foreign products and the franchising system itself. Among the major US franchises which operate in Arab countries are McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Avis, Hertz and Holiday Inn. The franchising business can be advantageous to both franchisers and franchisees. Franchisers can attain quick market expansion and penetration while franchisees can avail of lower risks provided by franchising. The popularity of this business is expected to increase in the region. Guidelines to franchise operations in the region are discussed.

Franchising in Morocco: economic and social changes fuel spectacular market growth

Article Abstract:

Morocco's franchise market is relatively new and small and the absence of government policies on franchising makes administrative procedures unpredictable. However, socio-economic trends in the country favor the market. The service sector is not fully developed and therefore a rich investment field. The country is also fast becoming a business center in the the region and its licensing agreements have improved. Franchisors would do well to invest on a long term basis.
