Rank Xerox - management revolution

Article Abstract:

Rank Xerox is one of the few companies that has been able to beat back Japanese incursions in a targeted industry. Changes in management philosophy and organizational structure from a heirarchical command and control to a matrix organization based on team participation earned for them the position. A strict definition of the management process was maintained and this led to a redefinition of corprorate priorities. All functional changes adopted by the company focused on customer satisfaction, as responsibility and accountability was determined by an employee's proximity to the customer.

Managing the boundaries of the organization

Article Abstract:

Increasing emphasis on the criticality of customer-orientation and relationship management to business success is generating interest in managing beyond business boundaries. This trend is also being promoted by the increasing use of outsourced services, especially in areas that are not within the core competencies of the business. Managing across boundaries is particularly important to virtual organizations where performance results matter more than geographical or physical parameters.
