Article Abstract:

The establishment of a corporate strategic planning process by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, which is a research and development organization attached to the US Dept of Defense, is presented. This marks the first time that a strategic planning process was adopted by a federal agency. Under the process, strategic business units are tasked to do the various activities of the organization. Good and bad divestment: the stock market verdict

Article Abstract:

The effects of corporate divestment activities are evaluated. It is shown that stock prices of companies which divest undergo an abnormal and temporary increase. Some divestitures are ill-advised moves while some are intended only for stock-price manipulations. It is suggested that divestments should be resorted to only if the move allows for a planned strategic corporate reorientation. The main objective of divestments is to ensure value improvements.
