Regional Versus Multilateral Solutions to Transboundary Environmental Problems: Insights from the Southeast Asian haze

Article Abstract:

Regarding environmental problems in developing countries as only regional in scope leads to an unfair cost advantage at the expense of developed countries inspite of the multilateral environmental agreements under the auspices of the World Trade Organization. As the WTO is not an environmental protection agency, this paper proposes the establishment of a new global environmental agency to address these environmental interdependencies.

Singapore and the new regionalism: bilateral trade linkages with Japan and the US

An overview is presented on free trade areas, which typify new regionalism. Discussion focuses on trade proposals between Singapore and two economic superpowers, the United States and Japan. The article raises several concerns regarding such agreements.
