A 32-year-old man with vitreous hemorrhage and mediastinal lymphadenopathy

Article Abstract:

A 32-year-old native of India was hospitalized when he developed hemorrhages and loss of vision in his left eye. A chest X-ray and CT revealed enlarged lymph nodes. A biopsy of the lymph nodes around his windpipe revealed that he had tuberculosis. This led his physicians to consider the diagnosis of Eales' disease, which is characterized by tuberculosis in conjunction with an inflammation of blood vessels in the retina of the eye. It is common in India and the changes in the eye probably result from an immune response to the bacterium that causes tuberculosis.

Rehabilitating weak complementarity

Article Abstract:

A procedure was proposed to determine an agent's marginal willingness to pay for a nonmarket good. It involves a measure that will equal incremental willingness to pay when weak complementarity exists. Such measure is useful in calculating bounding marginal willingness to pay. In cases where weak complementarity does not exist, the agent's willingness to pay for an increment in his consumption of the nonmarket good is greater.
