Creating a local leadership development program

Article Abstract:

An economic development group can establish leadership programs in the community where it operates and reap benefits from the results. A program's success hinges partly on the thoroughness of the research and planning behind its operation. Such an undertaking has prospered in Seminole County, FL. This particular case involved the application of several sensible policies such as the focus on team building, standards and discipline.

Leadership in economic development: the case of the closing of Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois

Article Abstract:

The case of effective community leadership during a crisis such as that which occurred when the Chanute Air Force Base closed in Rantoul, ILL, illustrates the importance of factors such as multilateral and multidirectional communication and planning. In this particular case, the mayor of the community was able to rally his constituents towards creating viable plans for economic resurgence even in the absence of the base.
