Russian banks in1998: development of the systemic crisis

Article Abstract:

The Russian banking system crisis of 1998 was caused by underestimating negative consequences of poor regulation and hasty decisions made in August. Former state banks should be liquidated by 2003 and private retail banks should open, but neither can happen unless supported by state policy.

The banking crisis - is the fog lifting?

Article Abstract:

The Russian banking crisis of 1998 was caused by defects in the system. Although stagnant by early 2000, banks must solve the scarcity of equity capital, limited viable assets, and foreign indebtedness to resolve the situation.
