Article Abstract:

Indicators associated with the Leipzig Trade Fair show that the political climate for East-West trade is improving. The Fair is a vital link between western companies and the entire Soviet block. West German companies receive sixty percent of the East German import market, but competition is growing, particularly from the Japanese and Austrians. Western equipment is fundamental to the East German industrial modernization program.

Fair prospects for the future

Article Abstract:

A number of specialized construction trade shows held in 1998 and 1999. Most of the trade shows are will highlight local construction equipment and building materials due to market downturns. However, highly-specialized shows in Singapore's Baucon Asia in Oct. 1999 are expected to draw local visitors as well as Europeans and US companies interested in Singapore's high-tech market.

Bright prospects

The development of India's metal sector, in particular the copper and aluminium industries, may be appealing to those with foreign investment capital. One of India's mining analyst cites the country's low-cost production base for labour and transport and the export potential of aluminium.
