Shelter from the storm

Article Abstract:

The construction industry of Singapore is expected to be insulated from the worst of the Asian economic crisis, as its growth is primarily domestic-based. Expansion of the country's public works projects is continuing, with 1998 commercial construction predicted to reach $1.11 billion. Private sector construction demand may go as high as $3.33 billion by 2000.

An analysis of the future market for international engineering consultants indicates more than 1,300 infrastructure power projects have been planned or are under construction around the world. The collapse of the Asian economy has resulted in a redirection of private capital flows from the five major Asian countries to the largest beneficiary, South America.

Korean constructors target ASEAN

Article Abstract:

Korean construction companies have a high profile from India to China with a heavy concentration in southeast asian nations. There is a fear that Korean companies will overstretch their cash-flow reserves, but contractors are buoyed by earnings from successful, consumer-related activities and provides a healthy financial cushion.
