Monthly report - June 1998

Article Abstract:

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) forecasts economic growth for the second half of 1998 at better than 2.5% despite a 1.2 percentage point decline of the Small Business Optimism Index to 102.0. The NFIB Optimism Index, which encompasses small business industries such as retail, wholesale, and construction services, remains consistent with earlier forecasts which predict robust Gross Domestic Product figures for the second quarter. Key issues for small business include taxes at 26%, labor quality at 14%, and competition from large firms at 17%.
