The management of corporate enterprises in a transition economy

Article Abstract:

This article examines the role of corporate governance in the socioeconomic decline of post-Soviet Russia, stating that business enterprises need to take responsibility for their role in the state of affairs rather than simply blaming macropolitical and macroeconomic trends in order for Russia to find a new direction for economic and social reforms. The author discusses basic problems of enterprises, liability and rights of business owners, the shareholders' responsibilities, the necessary protection of employees, problems with collective representation and consolidation, and the need for integrity in the administration and management of enterprises.

The evolution and reform of industrial enterprises: ten years later

Article Abstract:

This article discusses economic reforms beginning in 1989, the last year of a period of prolonged economic growth in Russia, and leading to a steady decline in the economy. The author summarizes microeconomic results of market transformation, examines the disposition of internal forces and their effects on enterprise functions and development by using the concept of function management configuration; the differences and contradictions in the points of view of various industrial enterprises and their expectations for increasing or reducing the scale of enterprise are important when considering the direction to which reform should be directed.
