Casino gaming in Mississippi: location, location, location

Article Abstract:

Mississippi has been able to develop from an impoverished state in 1980 to the 2nd or 3rd ranking casino gambling state in the US. Casino gaming is a $1.5 billion industry in Mississippi. Casino gambling has both positive and negative effects in the economic development of Mississippi. Unemployment has dropped from 10.8% to 5.4%. However, burglaries have risen and rivers and coasts have been damaged.

Economic development and the introduction of casinos: myths and realities

Article Abstract:

Casinos are the newest economic development tool used by the US and Canada. However, they must be used carefully. The target market for a casino must be determined. Casinos located in natural tourism areas will yield the most economic benefits. It is also important that casinos be socially and economically accepted by the community where they are proposed to be established.
