The impact of global warming on agriculture: a Ricardian analysis: comment

Article Abstract:

The impact of global warming on agriculture was analyzed using the Ricardian approach. It assumes that costs of climate change, due to the absence of adjustment which is the major costs of global warming are low. However, changes in climate are more prevalent than changes in prices. Also, the economic aspects of global warming must focus on temperature, not on the temperature level, and its relationship to agricultural productivity.

The nature of the agricultural firm

Article Abstract:

The agricultural firm should be viewed as a system that has its particular level of specialization and relationship structure between labor and management. This view diverges from the usual theories on farm operations as a series of alternative contracts that incur varying risks and evoke varying degrees of risk aversion behavior. The recommended viewpoint is tested on empirical data from the Philippines and Nepal.

Common property in agricultural production

Article Abstract:

The notion of common property rights should be viewed not as an external variable in industrial organization theory but as part of the whole group of rights which may be either private or common rights. This particular viewpoint aims to find out the most efficient manner in which property rights could be structured in an environment characterized by a technology that is sensititive to scale and scope economies.
