The market for sulfur dioxide emissions

Article Abstract:

The provisions for the tradable permit approach contained in the 1990 Clean Air Act has shown the large scale viability of the approach in reducing sulfur dioxide emissions. An analysis of the emissions trading market showed that trading's effectivity became apparent by mid-1994, and was marked by vigorous transaction of emissions credits, that was unaffected by the auction process devised by the Environmental Protection Agency and mainly driven by the need of manufacturers and utilities.
