The restructuring of the coal industry

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of reforms to the Russian coal industry from 1993-1998, focusing on attempts to impart an organized nature to the process of adapting to the market and economic reforms. Issues include the development of a state policy for restructuring, the creation of a competitive private market which was supposed to produce their own future financing, the management of subsidies for the coal industry and the negative social consequences of such reforms.

The structure and functions of agro-food markets in Russia

Article Abstract:

This article examines the transition from a centralized economy to a market-based economy, focusing on the agricultural industry in the Russian Federation and the need to create a different infrastructure and form an agro-food market. Issues include an analysis of the degree of competition in the market, functional and institutional structures, and conditions of market equilibrium and efficiency; an examination of the agriculture and food markets is provided.

Private ownership of the land: the basis of efficient agriculture

Article Abstract:

This article discusses private ownership of land in Russia from an historical and contemporary perspective. The author suggests that an understanding of past land reforms and attitudes toward ownership are necessary for understanding post-Soviet agrarian relations.
