The roles of the state and the market in establishing property rights

Article Abstract:

The assumption that a system of property rights precedes the transition to a market economy is invalidated by the experiences of the East European economies. While the absence of an enforceable system of entitlements to productive assets has arrested the overall rate of transition, its influence is less obvious in the new private sector. In transition economies, legally enforceable entitlements can be effective only against the backdrop of the free market mechanism. A functional system of property rights and contracts is thus subject to market conditions rather than legal choices.

Analysis of democratic institutions: structure, conduct and performance

Article Abstract:

Game models need to be evaluated to discern the effect of the structure of the political system on equilibrium behavior of political agents, thereby aiding in analyzing constitutional structures. Many democratic models should be studied to cover all the facets of constitutional structure and political behavior by connecting this study to empirical discoveries from comparative politics.
