Businesses traditionally account for maintenance as a sunken cost, allocating a percentage of their budget each year for maintenance, which increases as the equipment gets older. Businesses would be better off if they adopted the asset care paradigm that is predicated upon a science of maintenance that covers the life cycle of equipment from purchase through replacement.
