Good social skills and a pleasant personality are important to job success. Someone who has good social skills will generally go further than someone who has good cognitive ability paired with poor social skills.

Understanding, speaking, reading, writing and earnings in the immigrant labor market

Article Abstract:

This study attempts to discover whether the ability to read, write, and understand English are as valuable as the ability to speak English. The research hear shows that the most valuable ability is the ability to understand English. Speaking, reading and writing ability will also improve chances for higher wages.
