Upgrade plans boost Egyptian market for phone switches

Article Abstract:

The upgrading of Egyptian telecommunications networks will result in a 20% annual increase in sales of telephone switches during 1994-1996. The Arab Republic of Egypt National Telecommunications Organization (Arento) generally monopolizes Egyptian telecommunications and the switch import market, in particular. Switch imports are $400 million a year with a projected 12% annual increase. French, German, and Swedish companies will compete intensely with US firms for the expanding switch market, although some European companies possess an advantage through their previous dealings with Arento.
