The paper, using data from 2, 222 regular season games, studies the advantages of utilizing the services of a second referee as done by the National Hockey League (NHL) in few matches played during 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 seasons. The utilization of the services of the second referee by the National Hockey League (NHL) and its consequences vis-a-vis television viewers and spectators at the matches are mentioned.
