Why constrain your mutual fund manager?

Article Abstract:

Investment policy restrictions are commonplace among the interactions between mutual fund portfolio managers and their investors. A large sample of domestic equity mutual funds from 1994 to 2000 is taken to demonstrate the restriction adoption practices and the significant variance in them across the funds and the changing levels of constraint in the industry are analyzed.
