Article Abstract:

Some academics predict a drastic rise in temperatures and sea levels in the 21st century, with London, UK, becoming partially submerged. Others believe new materials may be produced through molecular manipulation, while organs might be replaced with manufactured mediums. Religion is expected to continue to be important as the universe will remain a mystery, but life expectancy may decline because of environmental effects and a rise in violence. The wealthy are expected to become the main participants in classroom-based further education, with the poor being educated remotely via technology.

Finding new ways to measure success

Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly difficult to compare the achievements of different types of universities, with some of the newer institutions being financially rewarded for their success in attracting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, while others are rewarded for their research activities. However, applications to most of the newer universities have dropped, some by over 20%, possibly due to students' lack of confidence. The new universities should continue to focus on their different assets to retain the diversity of higher education, say some educationalists.

Girls take over the academy

Article Abstract:

The Government's drive to increase numbers of students in higher education may be failing, according to latest statistics. Most increases are among postgraduates, females and overseas students, with overall enrolments up by less than 1% on last year.
