A chance to build on good work

Article Abstract:

The UK government white paper 'Learning to Succeed' clearly sets out the objectives for post-16 education and training. It follows on from the additional funding for further education promised by the government in 1998. It is vital the authorities in further and higher education collaborate to ensure some people are not excluded from passing from further into higher education because of their background. Training institutions and colleges should also work together to prevent futile competition between the different bodies. It is important employers advise on skills councils.

Collaboration is the future

Article Abstract:

Further and higher education should forge new partnerships in order to deliver the best possible service to all students. The UK government has made 25.5 million pounds sterling available for colleges which seek to collaborate with other educational establishments. But partnerships should only be created if the students are likely to benefit from such an arrangement. The increasingly important role played by further education colleges will mean higher educational institutions cannot assume to hold a dominant position.

A flowering that requires healthy roots

Article Abstract:

Further and higher education in the UK should offer a comprehensive system of post-compulsory education. The boundaries between the two institutions must be abolished and their ability to offer a variety of courses should be enhanced. The Labour Government have pledged to offer 4000,000 additional places at further education establishments by the year 2002. The Government is planning to extend opportunity in post-compulsory education facilities as part of its lifelong learning campaign.
