Indicted States of America

Article Abstract:

Historian Francis Jennings, renowned for debunking the official history of America in 'The Invasion of America' published in 1975, admits that he was awkward even as a child. He explains that other children considered him strange because he read books and that he had to learn to fight with his mouth. Jennings admits to being rather proud of writing a new version of the history he maintains was so badly mangled by respected US historian Francis Parkman, even though it took him 30 years. He maintains that racism is behind the political correctness spreading across many US campuses.

French connections

Article Abstract:

Historian Theodore Zeldin is unconventional in his approach to history preferring to move outside traditional boundaries and use examples from the present in parallel to the past. He has written several books on a wide range of subjects from his orignal speciality in French politics and history. Zeldin's book 'The French', which was published in 1983, was extremely popular in France. Zeldin has varied interests and is willing to spend time investigating new subjects, such as gastronomy. He has worked at St Anthony's College, Oxford, England, since 1955.

The paratrooping truffler

Article Abstract:

Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie is a widely respected French historian and is considered an authority on French history from medieval times to the revolution, while his autobiography 'Paris - Montpellier' also provides an insight into his own family history. Le Roy Ladurie has strong links with communism, but his family has Catholic roots. His Communist sympathies created tensions with his parents, particularly as they initially wanted him to become a priest. Le Roy Ladurie has always been keenly interested in class and religious conflicts.
