A great but flawed president

Article Abstract:

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington DC not only presents the political achievements of Roosevelt but also constitutes a political testament to present and future generations. The memorial, designed by Lawrence Halpin, is an impressive creation which is situated on seven and a half acres of land. The memorial consists of four sequential open-air rooms which include sculptures, pools and waterfalls. The four main rooms present a narrative of Roosevelt's four terms of office, looking at his achievements and also at the challenges which still remained when he died.

US right rues civic apathy

Article Abstract:

The question of whether American democracy is dying is being asked right across the American right. However the conservatives' apparent concern for democracy does not extend to expressing regret for their hostile opposition to movements to extend democracy in the 1960s. The conservatives have not stopped attacking 'big government' and people such as professors and schoolteachers. They continue to warn about radical egalitarianism and promote civic virtue and religious fervour as the answer to the US's ills.
