Absolution aesthetic in a shadow landscape

Article Abstract:

Don McCullin is a veteran war photographer but has retired to the English countryside and now photographs there in all lights and all weathers. He has a reputation as one of the finest photographers in the world for subjects including war, famine and general human catastrophe.McCullin now photographs English landscapes, but prefers desolate winter scenes. He has also done a lot of photography with London's tramps and derelict families in northern towns. People are also almost always absent in his landscapes.

Words lost in a new landscape

Article Abstract:

With the changing political map of Europe and the breakdown of trade barriers some observers expected there to be greater readership of European authors translated into English. Other European nations such as France, Germany and Spain buy quantities of foreign books translated into their languages. In the UK and US only 2.5% of published books are translations. It is thought unlikely that this system will change, certainly while the recession is in force.
