Dark side of the sun

Article Abstract:

Professor of astrophysics at Birmingham University, England, George Simnet sees no reason to make a big fuss about solar eclipses now that a wealth of information about the sun is being provided by instruments on SoHo (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory). However his view is not shared by Cambridge University solar physicist Helen Mason who admits to a lifelong ambition to see a total eclipse of the sun. Mason is travelling to Guadeloupe to observe a total eclipse on Feb. 26, 1998. The first total eclipse of the sun to be visible in mainland Britain for more than 70 years will occur on Aug. 11, 1999.
